AZ Alkmaar, officially Alkmaar Zaanstreek, is a Dutch football club based in Alkmaar. Founded in 1967, the club was formed from the merger of Alkmaar '54 and FC Zaanstreek. AZ plays in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top flight, and is known for its modern youth academy, which regularly produces talented players. Its home stadium is the AFAS Stadion, which has a capacity of approximately 17,000. AZ stands for ambitious, attacking football and strong youth development.
