AFC Sunderland, officially Sunderland Association Football Club, was founded in 1879 and is one of the most traditional clubs in England. The club, also known as "The Black Cats", has won six English league titles in its history (most in the early 1900s) and two FA Cup victories, most recently in 1973 when they surprisingly defeated Leeds United in the final. Sunderland plays its home games at the Stadium of Light, which has a capacity of over 49,000 spectators.
